一项新研究认为，在100亿年前星系形成的高峰期，产星星系的外盘可能主要为恒星和气体主导，而非暗物质。而对遥远星系自转曲线的最新测量结果似乎与早期星系形成的模拟结果不一致。
2016年12月19至21日，由云南天文台丽江天文观测站主办的“第八届哈萨克斯坦-中国-韩国恒星动力学及相关领域国际研讨会”在昆明举行。来自中国、韩国、哈萨克斯坦和澳大利亚等国的40余位专家、学者参加了会议。本次会议获得了中国科学院天体结构与演化重点实验室、国家自然科学基金委员会的资助。
“化石”星系诞生于宇宙极早期，随后极少演化，对这些星系的研究将帮助理解宇宙第一代恒星和星系的形成。2016年12月9日《自然·通讯》报道了中国科学院紫金山天文台高煜研究员与南京大学施勇教授团队合作在“化石”星系中首次发现了一氧化碳气体，这提供了直接证据表明化石星系中存在分子气体。文章链接http://www.nature.com/articles/ncomms13789
